Fences

In the 1950's and in the city of Pittsburgh there was many problems with segregation. Troy Maxson dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was not allowed to play do to his race. After not being allowed to play his son Corey gets a chance to play to meet with a scout for his football abilities. Troy doesn't like it because he was never allowed to play and doesn't want Corey to play. Another reason why he doesn't want Troy to play is because he doesn't want his son to get hurt like he did. He wants him to do chores and work around the house.

Troy clearly loved Baseball and always wanted to be in the sport professional. He was to old and was not quite good enough. His nationally might have impacted his chance too. When he didn't let Corey follow his scholarship, he thought it would be better for Corey in the future, but Corey thought that it would be a good chance to advance his future and to get things going. Corey's mother totally agreed with him and was with him all the way. Troy was just selfish and jealous that his son would be better than he was.

I felt bad for Corey during the play because it wasn't right. He should have been allowed to play football and follow his dream. I think that Troy doesn't want his son to do better than him and is jealous that Corey might actually get in a professional sport. I think that a father would always want his son to do better and succeed more than he did growing up through the years.

A Raisin In the Sun

A Raisin in the Sun is about an African American living together in an apartment in Chicago. Lena the mother of the family gets a 10000 dollar check from the death of her husband. Through out the play every body is focused on this sum of money even including the kids. There are many opinions that the family has and it is hard for them to decide what to do with it.  Mama then decides to use some of the money to buy a house and gives the rest to Walter and Beneatha.  Walter wants to start a liquor store and Beneatha puts it towards her schooling. These are some examples of the American dream in a way.

Comparing the Play to a Movie Film

Movies and Plays have very different views and acting differences between characters. Many people like the movie version, and many people like the book. The book is generally published first and is usually different compared to the movie. In the movies they change things that were not in the book to make it more interesting to watch. There is a lot of difference between he two, just like he short film we watched compared to the play. It may change your mind on how you see each character.
