Fences

In the 1950's and in the city of Pittsburgh there was many problems with segregation. Troy Maxson dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was not allowed to play do to his race. After not being allowed to play his son Corey gets a chance to play to meet with a scout for his football abilities. Troy doesn't like it because he was never allowed to play and doesn't want Corey to play. Another reason why he doesn't want Troy to play is because he doesn't want his son to get hurt like he did. He wants him to do chores and work around the house.

Troy clearly loved Baseball and always wanted to be in the sport professional. He was to old and was not quite good enough. His nationally might have impacted his chance too. When he didn't let Corey follow his scholarship, he thought it would be better for Corey in the future, but Corey thought that it would be a good chance to advance his future and to get things going. Corey's mother totally agreed with him and was with him all the way. Troy was just selfish and jealous that his son would be better than he was.

I felt bad for Corey during the play because it wasn't right. He should have been allowed to play football and follow his dream. I think that Troy doesn't want his son to do better than him and is jealous that Corey might actually get in a professional sport. I think that a father would always want his son to do better and succeed more than he did growing up through the years.
